Allie Robinson Community Service Project

Hello! My name is Allie Robinson, and I am a Junior at Jacksboro High School. I am launching a community service project to help economically disadvantaged students at the elementary school with their mental health and to prevent the “summer slide.” Through school organizations, and my own personal experiences, I have met people who suffer from mental health issues, academic struggles, and stressful school lives. According to the CDC, 22% of children below the poverty line struggle with behavioral disorders, the most common being anxiety, depression, and ADHD. This factor, combined with the 70% of students who suffer from learning loss from one year to the next, causes a deadly combination of motivation deregulation that students never really recover from. And it all starts in elementary school.

Considering that 47.9% of the Jacksboro ISD student body is economically disadvantaged, our students are particularly susceptible to struggling in high school and college because of these combined factors.

My project attacks the problem early by providing elementary-school-aged children that fit into this demographic with materials that keep them learning and entertained over the summer, prepare them for the coming school year, help them understand their emotions, and encourage them to become more self-sufficient. However, I can’t do it alone.

In the Amazon Wishlist below, all of the materials we need to make this project a reality are available for you to donate. I believe this project will help eliminate this problem in Jacksboro, and set a precedent for similar projects in the future to make tidal waves in the education system. If you are a part of this community and hold a great fondness for it and for the students in our schools, this is the perfect way to help them directly. Any help is greatly appreciated, and an essential part of this project. For anyone who donates, I thank you in advance, even though I know it isn’t enough because of the great service you would be providing. I love this community more than I can say, and this is my way of giving back. Thank you all. I can’t wait to make a change here in Jacksboro!
